Why This Matters to Me

There are moments in life that quietly change everything.

Mine happened on a mountain bike trail at Silver Star Mountain in Vernon, British Columbia

Years earlier, someone I once loved had tragically lost his life in a bear attack while planting trees in Northern BC. So when a bear suddenly appeared on the path in front of me, time stood still.

People say your life flashes before your eyes. Mine did.

Three thoughts came instantly:

  • How grateful I was to have worked from home and raised my boys.

  • Had I truly made a difference in the lives of others? Did my journey count

    And oddly enough…

  • “Oh my goodness… the mess in the house.” (Yes — real life.)

I discovered that day that life is short and it is NOT the things that are important. It is the people, the experiences and the love.

Things are just things, clutter & weight that drags us down.

Thankfully, the bear was simply curious and moved on.

But I didn’t.

Something in me shifted.

On the drive home, tears filled my eyes as I pulled my green Dodge Caravan to the side of the road and sat quietly on the bumper.

And there, I created a mission statement for my life:

Whose life can I impact today?

That moment changed everything.

It became the reason I care so deeply about helping others live healthier, fuller, more intentional lives.

Because life is precious.

And how we live matters.
